1. Who We Are?
We are ordinary people who have decided to create this site with our own resources.  We are not profiting from this site and have spent much of our own free time putting it together.  We both have full time jobs - this is our effort to encourage you to speak out if you feel as we do. We are unable to add our profiles since we have received a couple of threatening e-mails out of the hundreds of positive and gracious responses from the many fine people who have take the time to do so.

We are probably like most of you who are frustrated with an ongoing assault of our heritage in the public space. The selective intolerance by the same companies, organizations and groups that profess their allegiance to multiculturalism and the First Amendment is quite disturbing and duplicitous - hence the Grinch List.

However, we respect the right of all Americans to celebrate what is important to them throughout the year – we just don’t want others to determine that for us because of their political motivations – a disturbing trend.

2. Why the Web Site?

The concept of the Grinch List began last year (2002) when we were out shopping for Christmas.  We noticed the trend to remove Christmas from many of the traditional Christmas merchandise and voiced our concerns to the stores.  Many of the employees agreed and recommended that we contact the corporate offices.  The responses we received prompted the idea to organize a list that we can manage online.

We hope that this site informs and encourages you to take action by letting others know how you feel about this issue and stand up to those who think your culture is not important. We also hope to elevate this issue to a level where intolerance and censorship is challenged - it's up to you!

3. How Do Companies and Organizations Make the Grinch List?
The Grinch list is primary the result of our own experiences.  Though the process is not scientific, the minimum requirement is that there is an obvious intent to censor references to Christmas via merchandising, official policies, and/or advertising. We realize that there are differences between the companies and organizations that are listed in terms of making the list - whenever possible we try to indicate the differences.

4. What is Our View on the "Holidays?"

We are not opposed to wishing people “happy holidays” since there are many who don’t celebrate Christmas. However, we stand against those organizations and companies that remove references to Christmas because of political correctness while at the same time recognizing and promoting non-Christian holidays and cultural events. We have been told many times by companies that engage in multiculturalism but remove references to Christmas because they feel it might offend those who don’t celebrate Christmas. This viewpoint should never be tolerated in a country that embraces our religious freedoms and is at the forefront of the purposes behind this site. Moreover, we respect the rights of others to celebrate this time of the year in the way that they see fit – it’s America.

5. What To Do with the Grinch List?
Since the Grinch list is primary the result of our own experiences, we encourage you to question the practices and policies affecting the companies and organizations within your own State, and voice your concerns if you feel the issues central to the site are evident.

We recognize it is possible for a national chain to merchandise differently for a particular region, so it is conceivable that some of the companies listed may not apply to your area. So we encourage you to check the stores where you shop.

6. Do Companies Market Differently in Stores vs. Online and Catalogs?
  Yes.

Some of the companies listed on the Grinch list may censor Christmas in their retail stores while their online sites and catalogs may not, as an example. This is because many of these companies are operated under different divisions that are dedicated to each of these venues.  Where possible, we try to make the distinction between these three areas on our list.

7. What To Do with the Contact Information Listed for Various Companies and Organizations?
When possible, we've provided contact information.  This is to assist you to ask questions and voice your opinions about practices that you may disagree with.

8. Can You Recommend a Company to the Grinch List?

Yes, however ....

We have received hundreds of suggestions to the list and can only consider those that we can verify.  Since our time and resources are stretched, we are unable to verify all of your suggestions at this point.  We recommend that you voice your concerns to the appropriate parties to affect change in your particular State.  We will do our best to modify the list.

We've also received many recommendations for local and/or regional companies.  We are unable to verify many of those recommendations so we will not be able to add them to the list at this time.

If you would still like to recommend an organization or business that respects Christmas or you feel a company censors Christmas and should be on the "Grinch's List", just let us know.” We will do our best to add them.

9. What We Do with Your Offer to Help?
We've received many gracious offers of help us with the site.  We appreciate your offers and will try to contact all of you for improving the 2004 Grinchlist.com.
