The Grinch List is a dynamic list but it is not a complete list. It represents our own experiences outside our nation’s capitol.

Our intention is to inform you of the double standard that exists during the holiday season, considering retailers annually reap billions of dollars from Christmas shoppers. Moreover, many of these same organizations heavily promote diversity programs, yet don’t see the irony of these hypocritical practices.

A Christmas Tree

A Holiday Tree

Discovery Store
The Discovery Store carries "holiday ornaments." They indicated that they did not want to offend those who don't celebrate Christmas under their limited corporate mantra of diversity and multiculturalism. What's more, they indicated that calling a holiday ornament a Christmas ornament might create an unwelcoming environment for those who don't celebrate Christmas. Huh?!!

Hecht's Store
Walk into the "Holiday" section of this department store where you will find the brand "Home for the Holidays" for most of the ornaments and Christmas items.  Most of the Christmas paraphernalia has been branded with  names such as "Holiday Lights" and "Holiday Garland."  The only hint you get from this section of the store that shoppers are shopping for Christmas is derived from the background Christmas music.

Home Depot Web Site
Try searching Home Depot web site using key word "Christmas".  You will find 5 pages of results, but only one product actually has the word "Christmas" - the swivel straight Christmas tree.  Curious as to what you will find under Christmas category of web site shopping?!  Did you guess right?  You will find "Holiday Yard Ornament", "Holiday Evergreen Classic Wreath", and "Holiday Lights", just to name a few. Want a fresh cut tree? You guessed it...

The Architect of the Capitol
Since 1963, Architect of the Capitol upon recommendation from House Speaker John W. McCormack, started displaying a holiday tree on the Capitol grounds. The lights on the 2003 U.S. Capitol Holiday Tree will be lit during a ceremony held on Thursday, December 11, at 5 p.m.
Take a peek at the 2003 Capitol Holiday Tree! Not only you will see this holiday tree on the Capitol grounds, you will also be able to purchase "2003 Capitol Holiday Tree Merchandise" from its web site. Their communications' officer indicated that it is the "peoples tree" and people should celebrate it how they see fit. A phone conversation with the secretary to the Architect indicated it's better to have a "holiday" tree as opposed to nothing at all. Can you say PC...
